One Kay Gee

Great coffee, honestly sized.

A full kilo of freshly roasted beans at a fair price — and every batch is colour-checked, so it tastes the same every time you open a bag.

The number in each coffee's name is its roast colour, measured after roasting. Same number, same cup — every single time.

Two coffees

One strong, one smooth.

Both sold as whole beans in a full 1kg bag, roasted to order in Forest Hill and posted straight out. Roast date on every bag.

Strong coffee usually means burnt coffee. Not this one. Ugandan robusta brings the kick and the thick crema, Brazilian arabica keeps it smooth. Dark chocolate, roasted nuts, heavy body — and noticeably more caffeine than a standard arabica.

The one you'll reach for every morning. Brazilian natural Catuai brings chocolate and caramel sweetness, Sumatran arabica adds a deep, smooth body. Sweet enough to drink black, strong enough to hold up in milk.

Why the number

Most coffee is roasted by eye. Ours is measured.

Roast a batch a shade darker and the coffee tastes different. That's why a bag you loved last month can disappoint the next time. We take the guesswork out.

  1. 01

    Roast in small batches

Green coffee we've bought from farms we can name, roasted a sack at a time in Forest Hill.

  2. 02

    Measure every batch

We grind a sample straight off the roaster and read its colour on a meter. If it's off, it doesn't go in a bag.

  3. 03

    Print it on the front

The reading becomes the coffee's name. 085 is 085 in January and in July — that's the whole promise.

Questions

The useful bits.

Do you sell ground coffee?

Whole beans only for now. Beans stay fresh far longer than ground coffee, and a kilo of ground would be stale before you got through it. If you need it ground, tell us what machine you use when you order and we'll see what we can do.

Will a kilo go stale before I finish it?

Not if you keep it sealed. The bag has a one-way valve and a resealable strip, so keep it closed in a cool cupboard and it'll be good for weeks. A kilo is roughly 70 double espressos or 60 mugs of filter.

What does the number actually mean?

It's the colour reading of the ground coffee, measured on a meter after roasting. Lower is darker. It isn't a score or a rating — it's the setting we hit on every batch so your coffee doesn't change.

How fresh is it when it arrives?

We roast to order and post the same or next day. The roast date is printed on every bag, not hidden in a code.

Where does the coffee come from?

Uganda, Brazil and Sumatra at the moment, bought through importers who can tell us the farm or the co-op. Peru, Ethiopia and Colombia single origins are on the way.
